Back in 1984, I was doing well in a Fortune 100 company, yet I felt that I could do a lot better. I had just got promoted into sales, and out of 466 sales representatives world-wide, I was 465. Not unlike many individuals, I had some very good times and I had some not so good times. My mother committed suicide when I was 17, and my dad had complications and was very sick with a tracheotomy, emphazema, and more. So, I decided that I needed some goal setting. My best friends dad asked me if I would help him find a motivational program for his company and I said sure. I researched a bunch of books, went to visit the speakers on my vacation time, and 5 months later went back to him with the answer. The Psychology of Winning, authored by Dr. Denis Waitley. I read the book 3 times and then made arrangements to go to the American College and watch a licensed female speaker teach the Psychology of Winning workshop to 40 IBM executives. It was awesome and I quickly learned that this Was and Is My Elusive Missing Piece!
Not only did they love the material, it rubbed off on me too. Within 24 months, thanks to a great team effort in Buffalo N.Y., I won the World Award In Sales for Emery Air Freight, and then repeated 2 more times. Everyone told me that it was impossible to win this award from Buffalo, yet I refused to let my subconscious here impossible, since I kept my subconscious mind chock full of Psychology of Winning messages, insights, concepts and practices and just made it happen!
